Cannabinoid Paste Vs CBD Oil?

CBD Paste Vs CBD Oil?

If you have been keeping up with us, you will have noticed that we have recently added a CBD paste to our range; it has very quickly become a favourite of ours and is the most popular repurchased item!

A CBD paste seems kind of scary – it is in a tube/syringe, it is black and thick and looks as though it should be reserved for the CBD veterans out there. In fact – it is very easy to use and an amazing source of a wide range of naturally occurring amino-acids, waxes, terpenes and cannabinoids; we think that it can be used by beginners as well as those who like a powerful cannabinoid punch.

It may not be for the faint hearted, but it is for those who are serious about the benefits of hemp.

A paste is what we personally use here at CBDiablo and much prefer it to the more popular oil- but what is the difference between the Cannabinoid paste, and a CBD Oil?

CBD Oils & Tinctures

So, as simple as it gets: a CBD oil is made by infusing the Cannabinoid compounds with a carrier oil (like Hemp Seed, Coconut/ MCT or Olive Oil). This can be done by adding an isolated form of CBD, a THC free broad or full-spectrum distillate, concentrate or even the paste. For whatever reason, CBD oil seems to be the most popular CBD product in the UK and is usually the gateway that people use to start their CBD journey.

Oils can come in a very wide range of shapes and sizes. Some are lighter tasting, and thin so they are made specifically to appeal to those with a delicate palate. It means that the oils lots of the ‘good stuff’ has been stripped out and a lot of the natural goodness goes to waste.

Other oils are really thick, strong and contain a lot more of what the Hemp plant has to offer. More often than not, an oil is produced by using a pureed version of the Hemp plant.

We would wager that most of the oils in the UK market only utilise CBD as a cannabinoid, and the other waxes, terpenes and natural amino-acids are taken out of the formula (usually golden or clear oils).

This is something we didn’t like so have ensured that our formula takes advantage of CBD & the whole hemp plant– they may taste like hell but they work like heaven.

Most of these oils come in a little bottle with a pipette and you put drops of the oils underneath your tongue. The great thing about an oil is that it is versatile and the carrier oil also has its own well-being benefits. For instance, an MCT oil is a very effective delivery system and is one of the most health beneficial substances on the planet; olive oil is great for your hair and skin. So, depending on what you need from the CBD product, you can choose a carrier oil that complements the benefits of CBD.

Cannabinoid Extracts & Pastes

A Sativa hemp extract is a pure raw whole plant paste that has been produced specifically to retain the naturally occurring cannabinoids, amino-acids, waxes and terpenes. It is exactly how nature intended it to be.

Imagine a whole hemp plant that has been squeezed into a tube. There are many people out there, including us, who believe that the benefits of CBD & the Hemp plant are best when all of the naturally occurring chemicals and compounds are present- including a wide range of naturally occurring Cannabinoids that work to enhance and regulate each other; this is called the Entourage Effect.

Compared to oils, cannabinoid pastes contain a much wider range of cannabinoids, including the raw acid form of CBD called CBDa. CBD or cannabinoid pastes (down to the content of other health beneficial cannabinoids) tend to be much more potent and a little goes a long way– this is down to the entourage effect. Many customers find that the paste is much more cost-effective and lasts a lot longer as less works just as well as twice the amount of oil.

Pastes also come in a variety of shapes and sizes- some are thicker and darker, while others are lighter, softer and more liquid. Some taste very strong and bitter, some have a slightly floral note that makes them quite pleasant. This kind of pure hemp extract really sticks to the back of your throat and can put a few hairs on your chin! (not literally) so it may be best to wash it down with a little bit of water or veg juice.

You would usually take the paste in the same way as you would take the oil, but placing a pea-sized (or as you feel best) amount under your tongue. Otherwise, you can rub the paste into your skin, add the paste to food or to a carrier oil to make your very own CBD tincture.

Which is Better?

Well, you can be the judge of this! It is really which product you prefer and which you find easiest to take. The paste is a raw, effective pure product but comes with a very acquired taste – an oil is easy to take, can come in a variety of different forms and has versatility.

We personally turn our paste into an oil to get the best of both worlds, but how you take your CBD is down to you!
